The "Unawatuna Diving Centre" is managed by Sumith and Chaminda from Sri Lanka. They both guarantee a perfect holiday - above and below the water level.
The Diving Centre is situated 4 km south of Galle on Unawatuna bay, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka and even the world. The 2 km long fine sandy beach is lined by coconut palms. The Diving centre is located directly at the sea.
You can enjoy a perfect dive from mid October to end of April. During the rest of the year the sea is too rough quite frequently, and the visibility under water isn't good enough. Swimming though can be enjoyed - also by your kids! - throughout the year because a reef is keeping the high waves off the Unawatuna bay.

The Diving Centre was re-opened in 1999 and since then managed by a international team of competent PADI- and CMAS-Instructors.
First class compressors (made by Bauer) speedily fill the 10 and 12 l diving bottles.
30 complete Scubapro diving gears can be rented. Each jacket has its own security buoy.

The spacious Diving Centre has a large locker room and a well sized training-room. We have a large cleaning basin for your equipment, and afterwards your suit can dry perfectly in the shade. Again you see that all is taken care of.

At the diving base you have the possibility to practice land and boat diving tours (all grades of difficulty). There are two boats available, which can bring you to the desired diving locations. Every boat contains a maximum of 8 divers.

If you are willing to, you can attend guided underwater excursions (diving instructor/diving guide) in a group of at the most 4 people or explore the diving areas by yourself.

Since the beginning of the centre security is of greatest importance to us. First we introduce you to all details of the base and provide a briefing.

In addition our base has a stationary oxygen supply and a Wenoll system installed on each of the boats. The boat guides, diving guides and instructors are all trained in first aid assistance. Regularly the crews practice rescue training - you can participate by request.

The diving base offers courses for beginners and advanced divers, e.g. "Discover Scuba Diving" (minimum age: 8), basic diving licence, PADI OWD - Divemaster. All other special licences/patents, like UW-orientation, night diving, diving security, diving rescue, wrack diving can be done under specialized guidance. You can also prepare yourself intensively for your PADI diving instructor examination. After your preparation we can help you to find the right IDC/IE course.

A half-day nanny can take care of your children while you dive.

After the diving activities or the instructive courses all divers and non-divers sit together, enjoy a cup of Ceylon tea and exchange their impressions and experiences. For recreation there are comfortable lounging chairs. An open air restaurant next to the base offers snacks and refreshments. In the evening we can sit together and chat while watching the beautiful sunset.

The languages used on the base are German and English.

Attention! Don't get fooled by touts and "helpful"locals!

Frequently tuk-tuk drivers and "helpful" locals bring unsuspecting tourist to the wrong destination. They want to earn a commission from cheating tourists.
Insist on being brought to "Unawatuna Diving Centre" on the main road (Matara Road). On the outside of our building you can clearly read our name. Insist on meeting Sumith and Chaminda.
Don't believe the tale of "They are closed after Tsunamie" or "They are fully booked"!
We are open, and everything works fine.

* All prices in Euro, last updated 17.07.2006. Diving equipment can be rented in part or completely at the diving centre.

All courses are practiced following the instruction and examination norms of the VDST/CMAS or PADI.

The general participation and contractual norms have to be maintained.
